She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, cooking, and reading.īen was born in the Lehigh Valley region of Eastern Pennsylvania, and remained there until his time at Penn State. Marisa, along with Jon Nese won an Emmy in 2015 for one of the Weather Whys segments. Before joining the Weather Communications Group in July of 2002, Marisa worked in television and radio in State College, PA. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, Marisa worked as an on-air meteorologist and reporter at WPBN in Traverse City, MI and KOKH in Oklahoma City. The storm forced her hometown of Bayville, NY to be evacuated and sparked her interest in meteorology. Hurricane Gloria was the event that turned Marisa Ferger into an official "weather weenie". In his spare time, Jon enjoys attending Penn State sporting events and coaching youth basketball and soccer. Jon produces the very popular and Emmy-winning WXYZ (weatherwise) segment on Weather World each Wednesday. Jon has authored two books: The Philadelphia Area Weather Book (with Philadelphia television meteorologist and PSU alum Glenn Schwartz), and a college-level introductory textbook A World of Weather: Fundamentals of Meteorology (with Penn State meteorologist Lee Grenci), now in its sixth edition. Jon has now joined the faculty of the Department of Meteorology at Penn State. From 2002 to 2005, he was an on-air storm analyst at The Weather Channel. ![]() From 1998 to 2002, he was chief meteorologist at the historic Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia. During that time, he was a faculty member at the Beaver, University Park, and Hazleton Campuses, where he taught meteorology, earth sciences, and mathematics courses. Jon Nese is a native of Steubenville, Ohio, and was a regular on Weather World from 1989 to 1998. In his spare time, Rob enjoys traveling, hiking, spending time with friends, volunteering for his fraternity, and wine-tasting. He currently works as a host, producer, and forecaster for the show and works with students to help them prepare for careers in meteorology and weather broadcasting. Rob moved back to his alma mater in November of 2018 and returned to Weather World after a 7 year hiatus. Besides weather, Rob also worked on feature segments at the local zoo and a local winery. While in Fort Wayne, he covered extreme winter weather and severe storms, including one of the largest tornado outbreaks in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio on August 24, 2016. Rob moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in the fall of 2013 and began working at WANE 15 as a weekend morning meteorologist, co-host and reporter. He also got to do some hiking, ziplining, and snowmobiling in an outdoor adventure segment called Roaming Rob. In Maine, Rob covered record-breaking warmth, snowstorms, and blizzards. He was also involved with the student-run show Weather or Not and was a forecaster on Weather World.Īfter graduating from Penn State, Rob worked for two years as a meteorologist at WABI-TV5 in Bangor, Maine. While at Penn State, Rob was actively involved in Campus Weather Service, the largest student-run forecasting organization in the country. He attended Penn State for meteorology and graduated in 2011. He competes in several charity races each year, including stair climbs and kayak marathons, to help raise money for local charities.Rob grew up in the small western Pennsylvania town of Blairsville (Indiana County) and knew from a young age that his career would involve weather. Growing up, he wrestled and played baseball for 15 years. Chris also enjoys the thrill of competition. He has a younger brother, as well as an identical twin brother, and yes, they played all the tricks on their teachers as kids, and are inseparable to this day. He also has his NWA Seal from the National Weather Association and numerous certificates for mesoscale circulation forecasting.Ĭhris enjoys weight lifting, running and spending time with his family and friends. Sowers made a stop in the "Windy City" of Chicago where he was the weekend meteorologist.Ī Glassboro, NJ native, Chris graduated with a Meteorology degree from Kean University in Union, New Jersey. In 2005, Chris left Philadelphia to begin his on-air career as Chief Meteorologist for WNKY in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This is a return to 6abc for Chris, as he originally worked as a weather producer beginning in October, 2000. Chris Sowers joined Action News as the weekend morning meteorologist in May 2011. ![]()
